Washing up liquid
As we hurtle towards the fall, it is time to clean the garden furniture before we put it away for the year. You can remove rain marks, lichen and bird poo using a bucket filled with warm water and washing up liquid and then rinse well with a hose before drying thoroughly before storage.
A second idea for washing up liquid is stains on clothes. If you rub washing up liquid directly on the stain (and preferably as soon as it happens) and then rinse with water, that is often enough to move any marks. Put in the washing machine afterwards and your shirt, skirt, dress will be as good as new!
And the uses don’t stop there… just knocked over a glass of red wine on your carpet? Act quickly. Mix a tablespoon of washing up liquid with two cups of warm water and blot the stain until it disappears. Use cold water and a sponge to get rid of the soap and blot dry with a clean cloth.
Tomato sauce’s eco-friendly cleaning properties
Not just the perfect accompaniment to fries, this humble cupboard favorite can be used to remove rust from garden furniture. Dab the sauce on any rust patches and rub with a cloth to lift it off.
Another surprising use for ketchup is to shine copper pans. A pretty accompaniment to the kitchen, copper pans do need quite a bit of cleaning. One the pan has cooled and been washed, rub in sauce to make them gleam and shine once more.
Baking soda
There are no end of uses to baking soda when it comes to eco-friendly cleaning. Here is one you might not have heard of. If you find spare bed linen or towels smell stale in storage, place an open box of baking soda in the cupboard with them. Freshened up in no time!
Vodka and bathrooms. Yes, if you haven’t drunk the vodka in your home why not use it to clean the bathroom? It’s brilliant for giving porcelain fixtures such as the sink and the bath a clean shine. Apply to a soft cloth and rub well.
