Seven eco-friendly techniques for lifestyle and living

by budget-maids® - April 13, 2019

eco-friendly techniques One of the questions we’re asked frequently at Budget Maids is how can I use eco-friendly techniques to make my house and lifestyle greener?

We’ve pulled together eight top tips to help you:

Change to environmentally friendly cleaning products

Many cleaning products have harmful chemicals in them that are not environmentally friendly and can cause damage to the water system. And repeated exposure to cleaning products can have an affect on your children, pets and yourself. Organic or green cleaning products help you keep a tidy house without the nasty side effects.

Switch it off

Lights, equipment, laptops, TVs, chargers… nowadays we are surrounded by so much electrical equipment, it uses up tons of this precious resource. Switching things off when you are not using them is a good practice to go by and it will reduce your utility bills too. Remember, you should not charge up phones and tablets in the same room you sleep in, and switch the Wi-Fi off at night too.

Cut down on the plastic

Take your own bags when you go shopping, Do not buy bottled water, use a recycled cup or your own cup for take-away coffee, ditch the plastic straws and try not to buy over-packaged food and other items.

Consider the many amazing uses of vinegar

We have blogged about vinegar before and how many uses it has as home-made, environmentally-friendly cleaner. Read about them here.

Use LED lightbulbs

Although they seem expensive, over time the bulbs pay for themselves because they last far longer than other bulbs and they use far less energy, reducing the price of your bills. Another eco-friendly techniques win-win!

Recycle as much as you can

Bottles, plastic, paper, card—check out the recycling options in your area and make disposing of it a weekly chore to ensure you do not get a build up. Clothing and shoes can go to any thrift or charity shops in your area.

Reduce

While reusing and recycling is brilliant, the best option is to reduce so you do not create demand for something in the first place. Is there anything you buy that you can cut down on. Again, the natural consequence of implementing eco-friendly techniques is that they result in you spending less money. Money that can be used for better things, such as (eco-friendly, of course!) holidays.
