New Year cleaning resolutions

by budget-maids® - January 19, 2021

resolutions with post-it notes Cleaning resolutions are easier to keep than most others because they don’t involve deprivation. As 2021 is yet to offer any let-up in uncertainty, few of us want to embark on restrictive diets and military-like fitness regimes, so why not tidy the house instead?

Here are our suggestions…

Declutter

The fewer items you have, the easier it is to keep your home clean. Keep only the things that are useful, and that you love. Recycle the rest or donate to non-profits.

Clean your silverware regularly

Silver oxidises quickly—tarnishing that glorious brightness. Swab the surface first with rubbing alcohol (remember to always be gentle with silver) and then use a silver cloth to take off the tarnish and get your item gleaming once more.

Establish hygiene protocols for your home

As the pandemic continues, it is more important than ever to ensure your house is clean and tidy. Everyone in your house should be using hand sanitizer when they return to the house, and you should keep door handles, the kitchen surfaces and the bathroom wiped down every day.

Keep your kids and pets safe

Make this the year you switch to environmentally friendly cleaning product. Better for the planet and much safer for the children and pets in your home. Green cleaning products have come on in leaps and bounds in recent years, and there are also plenty of home-made remedies you can use around the home. Check this piece out here to find out more.

Descale your coffee maker

Here’s an easy way to get rid of those mineral deposits that build up in the coffee maker. Fill the reservoir with half vinegar, half water. Brew it half-way and then allow it to sit for half an hour. Rinse afterwards by brewing clean water. Voila—no deposits!

Freshen up your shower curtain

If your plastic/vinyl shower curtain has black spots or the dreaded pink mold on it, throw it in the washing machine with some detergent and two or three bath towels. Hang out to dry. To help prevent mold, always stretch the curtain out after you have a shower as this will help the moisture evaporate quickly.

Bring in the professionals

A professional cleaning firm can tidy your house from top to bottom (see here what professional cleaners do that you probably don’t). Our teams at BudgetMaid work quickly and thoroughly, and have been trained to ensure they can keep you and themselves as safe as possible during the pandemic.
