We’re more than familiar with the overflowing basket. Nowadays, most people want quick solutions, but they also want washing tips and tricks that don’t compromise our environment. And the help that makes washing more manageable.

Read on to get Maid Service Olney tips and tricks

Less is more. Modern fixations with hygiene and cleanliness are overplayed. The general rule for laundry is that you wash stuff that has skin contact after one use—so socks and panties. Skirts, shirts, sweaters, tops and more don’t necessarily need it, especially in colder weather.

Use the environment to help. Just washed a load of white sheets and towels? Hang them out in the sunshine in the early morning to capture the sun’s natural bleach effect. The converse is true. If you’re drying bright colors and fabrics, hang them on the shadier part of the line to stop fading.

Wash separately. We know, it’s obvious, but it is easy to throw everything in together. This leads to color runs, shrinkage, shredding and more. It’s not worth it.

Save energy. Before you use your dryer, make sure the lint basket is clean, and the vent isn’t blocked, as this will save energy.

Prep your washing. For bright colors and fabrics, do as Maid Service Olney does and turn garments inside out. Straighten sleeves and pant legs as this will save you time later and place bras in laundry bags to help protect the machine’s drum.

Don’t wash towels and fleeces with smooth, dark materials as the latter will pick up lint. You’ll be picking it off forever!

If colors do run, don’t let the stained item dry. Instead, wash it immediately with a detergent and/or a suitable stain remover.

Use hydrogen peroxide. Want whites that are whiter than white? Add half a cup of hydrogen peroxide to the load once the washing machine fills with with water. Allow it to soak for half an hour on a pre-wash then proceed as normal. You’ll only need half the usual washing detergent.

Hang properly if ironing isn’t your favourite job. This will minimise how much you need to press clothes. Shake the clothes as you peg them out and give them as much time as possible. They’ll dry softer and smoother that way.
