maid service at Reston Happy Halloween! Planning a Halloween party or expecting lots of mini visitors in fancy dress? They can bring with them their own cleaning challenges. The maid service at Reston peeps know all the handy tips that will ensure your evening is more treats than tricks…

Sticky finger marks everywhere

Yup, Halloween comes with its fair share of candy. From sugary coated chews, luridly bright icing and chocolate, chocolate all about us, you can bet your bottom dollar some of it ends up on the carpets or furniture.

Removing food dyes from clothing

Act as quickly as you can, as any decent maid service will advise. Rinse the stained piece of clothing in cool water. Soak over night in water and detergent (check fabric care instructions first). Rinse and launder as per the label. You can also use color-run removing products for white fabrics.

Removing food dye stains from carpets and furniture

Be patient and resist the urge to scrub is the trick here according to the maid service at Reston. You will need two bowls of cool water, a sponge and an absorbent cloth. Sponge with the cool water, but do not saturate as this will spread the stain further. Blot with a dry towel and repeat until the stain has gone. If this does not work, try a commercial stain remover.

Carpet mess too intense? The maid service at Reston includes a carpet cleaning option for good as new carpets every time!

Removing toffee and caramel from pans

Made a bunch of home-made toffee apples? [Recipe for Halloween poison toffee apples.) Yum—lovely stuff, but that toffee is tricky stuff to remove. The same principles apply to caramel. Allow the pan to cool completely. The toffee or caramel will solidify. You will be able to scrape away most of it. Then, fill the pan with cold water and bring to the boil. The rest will melt into the water and can be disposed of.

BONUS TIP—when making caramel or toffee, stir the mixture as a little as possible. When you begin, you can use a pastry brush to brush water or stray sugar down the sides of the pan. Swirl the pan to encourage the sugar to cook. Bring it to a boil very slowly, as this will minimise the chances of burnt and bitter sugar too.

Cleaning silly string off the car

This stuff is tricky because it is polymer-based and can damage painted surfaces, such as your car. For safety, start with clean fresh water from the hose or a jet wash. If the string has clumped around the door handles or mirrors, use a cotton bud or tooth pick to get rid of them. If residue remains, you can use rubbing alcohol (test first on an inconspicuous area). Then spread it over the residue. Allow to sit and then buff away with a soft cloth or chamois.
