Organise, organise, organise…
While many of our important documents, files and reports will solely be online, we still have to deal with paperwork in the modern age. Labelled boxes or drawers in filing cabinets will make documents easy to find – much better than raking through a ginormous pile on the desk, right?
You should also invest in a recycling bin or shredder if you haven’t done so already. This will help keep documents multiplying. Make sure you shred and recycle on a regular basis.
While labelled files will not be able to explain everything contained within, you can help yourself by colour coding files. Red might mean important, for example, while blue relates to bills or instructions. This will help you identify the box where the paper work you need is quickly.
Have a place for everything
Desk, chair, bookshelf, obviously, but it is also good to have drawer dividers that are used for stationery, cables, paperwork etc.
Containers can be used for spare printer paper and buy some binder clips to organise all the cables and wires. This is important for safety’s sake. We don’t want you tripping up over anything!
In common with all electrical equipment, desktops and laptops are dust attracting monsters. Air duster sprays are invaluable for keyboards, but we also advise you do not eat at your desk, which is proper work life balance anyway.
Keep your screen clean with a window cleaning spray and a microfiber cloth for a smear-free finish.
Finally, we are big believers in bare desks. When you leave your desk in a neat and tidy state at the end of the day, you’re also signalling to your brain that the working day is over, and it is now time to rest and relax with your family.
