Handy household tips

Store together

Place perfume, make-up and other skincare in decorative baskets instead of having them sit individually on your bedside cabinet or dressing table. Pretty and much neater.

Set some rules

One excellent rule that only takes seconds is that if anyone takes something out of a cupboard, a toy box or shelf, they must put it back when finished. That way, you keep your home clutter-free most of the time.

Keep a bag on the front door

And fill it with items that you no longer need or use for disposal in the charity shop. Keeping the bag at the front door encourages you to focus on it and remove it when full.

Dust properly

If you are dusting shelves and wall units, lift each item up and dust underneath and behind. Dusting around never cleans the area properly. A small, clean and soft paint brush that you dampen can be used to remove dust from keyboards, telephones and Venetian blinds.

Have your carpets cleaned professionally

Dry carpet cleaning is a minimally invasive procedure that will make your carpets look brand new. We recommend it, especially if you live in a home with pets.

Microwave magic

Fill a cup with water and microwave on high for a few minutes. This will soften splattered on food and make the inside of the oven easier to clean.

Chrome cleaning

Use dry clean microfiber cloths for chrome cleaning as they will give the best finish. A great way to clean stainless steel (handles or appliances) is to apply a little baby oil to a microfiber cloth and clean that way.

Picture frames

Clean by wiping the top of the frame first, down the sides and then the bottom. Never spray cleaner directly on the picture. Apply it to the cloth instead so you don’t risk stray liquid seeping behind the glass and damaging your photo or painting.

Vacuum safety

Always check a carpet before vacuuming so that you don’t accidentally vacuum up coins, small toys or jewelry.

Cobwebs

A clean lightly dampened cloth, tied around the working end of your dust mop or broom, will take care of cobwebs.
