Dealing with the After Party Cleanup with a Hangover!

by Matt Jensen - June 14, 2019

Congratulations! You’ve done it! You’ve thrown the most epic summer party and lived to tell the tale. However, the morning after doesn’t look so good, especially if you were crowned champion of beer ping-pong.

Waking up to a house after a party is a nightmare nobody wants to live through. Add a hangover to the mix and you’ve found yourself in what seems like eternal damnation!

But worry not, child. There’s salvation for you, after all!

Here are some useful tips to help you deal with an after party cleanup with a hangover, so pop down some aspirin and follow us!

A Pre-party Rescue Kit

Thinking ahead of time is always great. So when you decide to go booze and food shopping for your party, make sure you pick up the following items as well:

  • Trash bags—the bigger, the better.
  • Paper towels—you can never have enough paper towels!
  • Carpet and upholstery cleaning supplies
  • White vinegar

Speaking of preparing for the party, focus on de-cluttering the place as much as possible. If you have a linen closet, make use of it. Try and stuff as much pillows and blankets in there as possible. This won’t only help clean the place in the aftermath easier but it’ll also reduce the number of stainable items your guests might leave in their wake. In addition, unload the dishwasher (if you have one) before the party starts so you can just toss the dirty dishes in when the party ends.

Similarly, make sure you take out the trash right before the party; so the next day when you wake up with a giant headache and no memory of the previous night, you’ll be thanking your past self for getting the garbage disposal ready for use!

Start with the Dishes

The reason why you must always start with the dishes is that it’ll get a huge chunk of the mess out of your way, helping you think straight and get motivated. However, don’t pile up the sink.

Start by washing the dishes that are already in the sink or toss them in the dishwasher that was previously unloaded (thanks to your foresight). Once you’ve emptied the sink, take a tour around your place and gather all the kitchen utensils and bring them back to the kitchen. Spread them on the counter next to the sink. Remember, you want your sink clear at all times because you’ll need to pour leftover, stale beer down the drain and if that’s not nauseating enough for your hungover brain, a concoction of stale beer and cereal milk in a discarded bowl will definitely be!

Taking over the Rest of the House

Start by picking up the trash. Make use of the heavy-duty trash bag you got in your pre-party haul and put away the messes in the garbage disposal that you had previously emptied. Now that you’ve cleared up your surfaces, it’s time to hit the cleaning supplies and get to work! The white vinegar you bought will help you get stubborn stains out of your clothes, cushions and curtains. Just soak the items in the vinegar for a while and then throw the load in the washer with warm water.

As for your carpet and upholstery, you’ll find unexplainable stains that can be cleaned up with some high-quality upholstery cleaning supplies. However, we understand if you can’t bring yourself to do it all by yourself.
