Cutting back on chemicals in US house cleaning services

by Budget Maids - April 16, 2013

Following on from one of our previous blog posts on house cleaning services with natural ingredients, we were interested to note here at Budget Maids that there has been a big rise in the number of natural ingredients (or ‘bio-based’ sources) introduced into commercial cleaning products in recent years. And the trend looks set to continue as the race goes on to find more and more powerful natural-based commercial cleaners for household and public use.

The reason for the introduction of ingredients such as corn, lemon, orange, soy and herbs into commercial cleaners is for the companies who produce them to gain more of an environmental foothold in the cleaning industry.

Citrus – especially orange – is one of the more popular of the ‘new’ ingredients thanks to its excellent degreasing qualities. It’s especially good for cleaning stainless steel worktops and sinks.

Interestingly in our opinion, many public sector and large-scale private firms are now increasing their use of environmentally-friendly based cleaners in a bid to protect front-line staff from long exposure to harsher chemicals (let’s face it – no-one wants a law suit!).

How green is your cleaner in percentage terms?

Today you’ll find a run-down of ingredients on every cleaning product and those ‘green and environmentally-friendly’ elements will be highlighted to the extent many manufacturers insist on putting what percentage of ingredients are environmentally-friendly on the packaging.

Hydrogen Peroxide for house cleaning services

Oxygen is increasingly being introduced as an ingredient in our cleaning products. Hydrogen peroxide cleaner in particular have grown in popularity. They work by releasing oxygen when the product comes into contact with stains. This is said to both boost the power of the cleaning product and at the same time ensure there’s no residue left over. It’s so powerful that it’s now being introduced as an alternative to chlorine bleach which can prove damaging to skin in concentrated forms.

Respect the warnings on all cleaners

Just because a cleaning fluid has a high concentration of environmentally-friendly ingredients in it doesn’t mean you can use it in any concentration you like. For despite being far safer than their chemical counterparts, even biobased solutions can prove dangerous at super concentrated levels.

At Budget Maids we always use the greenest and most environmentally-friendly effective products we can find. For more information on house cleaning in Oakton, house cleaning in Vienna or a Maids Service in Potomac, then please give us a call. We’d be happy to hear from you.
