Christmas cleaning tips part 2

Want some expert advice on how to clean the house ready for Christmas? Read our expert tips on tidying like a pro…

The living room

Wash your cushion covers, as this will make them look much fresher. A nice idea to add that Christmas-y feel is to throw a festive blanket over the back of the couch. Why not invest in an air purifier too, which will help rid the room of dust and dirt. The purifier sucks dirt and dust out of the air and traps them inside a filter, meaning you don’t have to clean or vacuum the room as often.

The kitchen

Use a damp cloth to wipe down all the kitchen appliances to rid them of stuck-on food and fingerprints. Specialist cleaning sprays can make stainless steel sparkle, or you can use a vinegar-based home-made solution.

Condition the Counters

Clean your granite counters now so that they look their best for Christmas. Warm water and soap will clean the tops well, but you should do this once a day. Rubbing alcohol will also make them sanitary.

Clean the Bathroom

Shine up the mirrors by getting rid of toothpaste splatter or water spots. Coffee filters work well with glass cleaning solution, leaving your mirrors streak-free. Wipe down the sink and counters with an all-purpose bathroom cleaner. If any of the faucets have hard water deposits, soak a paper towel in vinegar, wrap it around the faucet and leave for a few hours. That ought to shift the deposit.

You can also use this tip for cleaning shower heads. Fill a sandwich bag with vinegar, submerge the head in it and secure in place with rubber bands. Again, leave for a few hours and your shower head will be as good as new!

Remember to clean the toilet as thoroughly as possible. That means inside and out. Put disinfecting toilet tablets in the tank to help keep it clean.

Clean the windows

Finally, clean windows make everything look better. One expert tip is to use a car windshield rain repellent on them once you have cleaned them with glass cleaner. This will form a protective barrier that stops water spots from forming later.
