Advanced Christmas cleaning tips

by budget-maids® - December 11, 2020

All our Christmas celebrations this year are bound to be a little more muted than usual, thanks to the ongoing pandemic, but most of us will be planning a meaningful day with the family.

To this end, you might be thinking about the Christmas clean to-do list. We’re one step ahead of you with this handy guide for advanced cleaning to ensure your house is ready for a wonderful day.

If you want to see what the Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends for gatherings, there is a handy article here with suggestions for what and what not to do.

Step one

Walk around the house and make a lit of what needs to be done in each room. Compiling a list means you can hand out chores too, so everyone in the family can play their part. Christmas is for Mums, too!

The list will also help you spread the job out over a few days. Something like carpet cleaning can be done now. Dry carpet cleaning creates the minimum of disruption and will make your carpets seem brand new.

In addition, you might want to clean the barbecue for a Christmas with a difference this year. As the coronavirus spreads more easily indoors, if you are having people round (if that is permitted where you are), then barbecued turkey enjoyed outside might be just the ticket.

Step two – declutter

The first part of decluttering is ensuring everything is in its right place. Then if there are things that don’t seem to fit anywhere, you can ask yourself if you really need them. A declutter session can clear the cobwebs from your mind. Mental health experts agree – a decluttered home is far more soothing on the soul than an untidy one.

Step three – check the spare rooms

If it is safe for you to have guests to stay, you can tidy up the spare room in advance of them coming, ensuring there is clean bed linen, wardrobe and drawer space, towels, etc. This year, we’ll all need plenty of supplies of hand sanitizer too…

Step four – clean out the fridge and freezer

Carry out a through clean of the fridge and defrost the freezer ahead of stockpiling them with holiday food and leftovers. You can follow our step by step guide to fridge cleaning here. Obviously, it’s more important than ever before to keep our fridges clean to minimize the risk of food poisoning/illness.
